Interview with Keith LeBlanc
Angus Finlayson of The Quietus talks to drummer Keith LeBlanc about hip hop culture in Chicago, playing with Sugar Hill and pouring water on drum machines.
Of course also his solo work, LeBlanc moving from the USA to the UK to work with Adrian Sherwood and Tackhead are subjects of the interview.
And as far as pouring water in drum machines is concerned: LeBlanc, also known as 'the human drum machine' never did that. "I mean actually I've always been interested in technology, so my main thing was trying to get my hands on one, because I figured I could program it a lot better than any of the engineers - the guys that were programming it at the time.
So I set out to get myself one, once I realised this was going to be a force for a while. When I did 'No Sell Out', I specifically used a drum machine because that was the sound at the time."
