New Mark Stewart album + dvd
The new Mark Stewart album will be released on the German label Crippled Dick Hot Wax!, March 2008, along with the documentary 'Mark Stewart - from the Pop Group to the Maffia' by Tøni Schifer. The dvd will be released on Monitorpop.
The new album will be called Edit (not Citizen Zombie) and Mark Stewart + Maffia will be touring in April 2008 to promote the album. Booking will be done by Rob at
Paperclip Agency. For those who can't wait for the dvd: there's a
compilation out on Monitorpop with an interview with Mark Stewart - about the history of the On-U Sound label, the Bristol music scene - and the video for Hysteria.
Mark Stewart was head and singer of the influential Bristol post-punk legend The Pop Group (1978–80). After its disbandment, the ’80s witnessed numerous bands emerge from the primeval soup that would make names for themselves, bands such as Rip Rig & Panic, Pigbag and Maximum Joy.
Stewart advanced his solo career with the backing band of Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash under the name of Mark Stewart + Maffia, with Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, the legendary producer and On-U Sound supremo Adrian Sherwood and the exceptional drummer Keith LeBlanc constituting the core.
